The rise of agentic AI<\/a> is creating a new frontier of cybersecurity<\/a> risk, with AI agents expanding the attack surface and enabling cybercriminals to chain together smaller vulnerabilities into larger, more sophisticated attacks, according to Toby Weiss, CEO of Securonix.<\/p>\n Organisations are increasingly worried that AI-powered agents acting on behalf of employees could magnify insider threats, even as enterprises struggle to defend against faster and broader AI-enabled attacks.<\/p>\n Large enterprises routinely contend with thousands of vulnerabilities across their environments, of which many are considered relatively contained because attackers would struggle to move between systems and exploit them in sequence. AI could change that by making it easier to identify and connect those weaknesses, he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat people are worried about with AI is just how it can take smaller vulnerabilities and chain them together to hack into a system,\u201d Weiss said. \u201cThere probably is a way to quantify the number of attacks. But the bigger question that organisations have is: what about the existing vulnerabilities that haven\u2019t been exploited, and now suddenly seem like they can be?\u201d<\/p>\n Challenges rise<\/p>\n Weiss said the shift from generative AI to agentic AI could make the cybersecurity challenge more acute because agents will increasingly act autonomously on behalf of employees and interact with other machines and systems.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you look at where we are now with agentic solutions, employees themselves have agents working on their behalf. And the number of agents as a ratio to the number of employees will go up, with each employee having many agents working for them. The insider threat will go up by an order of magnitude,\u201d Weiss explained.<\/p>\n He added that India is becoming increasingly important to Securonix\u2019s global technology and growth strategy, with the company operating two development centres in Pune and Bengaluru.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have full ownership of product development here in India. It\u2019s a major source of talent for innovation on the product side,\u201d Weiss said.<\/p>\n Securonix has more than 400 employees in India, making it the company\u2019s largest talent base globally. India also houses customer support, customer experience, local go-to-market operations, alongside product development.<\/p>\n India\u2019s cybersecurity readiness has also improved significantly over the past three to five years, according to Dipesh Kaura, Country Director, India and SAARC at Securonix. He said the adoption of digital technologies through initiatives such as Digital India has pushed organisations to strengthen cyber defences.<\/p>\n \u201cOver the last few years, growth has been phenomenal, and acceptance has come in.\u00a0There may be a difference between us and the other side of the globe because India is a growing country.
