The deal builds on a longstanding relationship between the two companies and represents one of the most sweeping AI rollouts in the US telecom sector.

Verizon will use Google Cloud’s full-stack AI capabilities, including its data infrastructure, to break down data silos and create uniform processes across the business. The carrier said the technology will lay the groundwork for an acceleration of its AI strategy, which has become central to its effort to improve customer experience and retain users following net losses in 2024 and 2025.

The stakes are clear. Despite elevated churn during those years, Verizon’s mobile and broadband service revenue reached roughly $23.4 billion in the second quarter of 2026, a 2.8% increase from a year earlier. The company added 184,000 postpaid phone customers and 348,000 broadband connections during the period, while adjusted EBITDA climbed 7.2% to a record $13.7 billion.

“Serving each and every one of our customers by name requires working AI-first at every level,” said Alfonso Villanueva, Verizon’s chief transformation officer. “Our partnership leverages Google Cloud’s AI and data capabilities across our organization to better enable our employees and keep our customers at the center of everything we do.”

Gemini Enterprise for Customer Experience already handles the majority of Verizon’s inbound consumer calls and chats each month, allowing human representatives to focus on more complicated customer issues. Under the expanded agreement, the carrier plans to use Gemini’s conversational and multimodal capabilities as an AI-first toolbox for customers, including updates to its automated resolution platform.

The rollout extends well beyond the contact center. Verizon intends to use Gemini Enterprise to coordinate AI agents across core business functions, while Google Cloud’s data tools will automate parts of content creation, marketing campaigns and customer engagement. Google also said the relationship will use AI to predict and resolve network anomalies before they affect customers.

For Verizon, the partnership is part of a broader push into AI infrastructure. The company is actively deploying fiber at scale, a decades-long project that has become crucial for hyperscalers’ ability to connect compute resources. Chief Financial Officer Tony Skiadas said during the second-quarter earnings call that AI infrastructure represents a new, long-term revenue stream the company expects will ramp up in the coming years.

“The build-out of AI infrastructure across the United States is one of the largest capital cycles of our lifetime, and Verizon is uniquely positioned to participate in it,” Chief Executive Dan Schulman said during the call.

Telecom operators are facing pressures familiar to other technology verticals: data traffic continues to rise, networks require sustained investment and traditional connectivity revenues are growing too slowly to absorb the strain, according to PwC research from July.

The financial implications are significant. Verizon expects mobility and broadband service revenue growth to accelerate toward roughly 4% in the fourth quarter and has raised its 2026 adjusted earnings per share guidance to $4.99 to $5.04. If AI can reduce service costs and churn while improving network reliability, the carrier could strengthen margins in a mature wireless market where small improvements in customer retention can have an outsized financial impact.

For Alphabet, the parent company of Google, the deal provides another large-scale proof point that Gemini Enterprise can move beyond experimentation and into mission-critical corporate workflows. The partnership positions Google Cloud as a key technology partner for one of the largest telecommunications companies in the United States.

The key test will be whether Gemini produces measurable improvements in automated resolution rates, customer-service costs and churn rather than simply becoming another technology expense. If automation fails to improve customer satisfaction or requires heavy incremental spending, the financial payoff will be harder to justify.

Verizon is betting that a deeper embrace of Google Cloud’s artificial intelligence stack will help the carrier cut…

[9
24,73321,1483,21333,9887,132,1429,2194,73322,1226
post-149899","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-google","tag-ai","tag-alfonso-villanueva","tag-alphabet","tag-dan-schulman","tag-gemini-enterprise","tag-google","tag-google-ai","tag-google-cloud","tag-tony-skiadas","tag-verizon
["GET
