{"id":14999,"date":"2026-04-24T03:48:44","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T03:48:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/14999\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T03:48:44","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T03:48:44","slug":"microsoft-offers-early-retirement-buyout-as-company-invests-heavily-in-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/14999\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft offers early retirement buyout as company invests heavily in AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/microsoft\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3098\">Microsoft<\/a> offered a voluntary early-retirement buyout program for longtime employees on Thursday as the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/technology\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11416\">technology<\/a> company continues to prioritize investing in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1658\">artificial intelligence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The one-time <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/retirement\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"2019\">retirement<\/a> program, the first in the company\u2019s 51-year history, will be available to U.S. employees at the level of senior director and below. The offer applies to workers whose years of employment and age total 70 years or more.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible employees and their managers will be notified about specific details on May 7, after which they will have 30 days to decide whether to accept the offer. Those with sales incentive plans are ineligible.<\/p>\n<p>The program was announced in an internal memo written by Amy Coleman, Microsoft\u2019s executive vice president and chief people officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of these employees have spent years, and in some cases, decades, shaping Microsoft into what it is today,\u201d Coleman wrote in a copy of the memo obtained by CNBC and other news outlets. \u201cOur hope is that this program gives those eligible the choice to take that next step on their own terms, with generous company support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The buyout program is expected to take effect in Microsoft\u2019s fiscal 2026 fourth quarter, which ends on June 30. TEXAS TAKES ON VIRGINIA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft is aggressively investing in AI infrastructure, spending billions of dollars developing massive <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/data-centers\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"22166\">data centers<\/a> globally. The company committed $80 billion to building AI-enabled data centers last year and continues to drop billions more. The latest investment, announced on Thursday, is designed to boost Australia\u2019s digital infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/big-tech\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"314\">Big Tech<\/a> companies partnered with the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/trump-administration\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"339\">Trump administration<\/a> earlier this year to ensure customers don\u2019t foot the bill for high electricity costs tied to energy-consuming data centers.
