According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Malone’s exit comes just over a year after he joined the firm in March 2025 following tenures at Google and Meta. His departure adds to a growing wave of high-profile executive exits across OpenAI’s business, product, ethics, safety, and operational divisions.

Malone’s hiring initially coincided with the launch of the Stargate Project, a $500 billion AI data-center initiative formed in partnership with Oracle, SoftBank, and other allies to expand US computing capacity. OpenAI confirmed it recently restructured its infrastructure organization to handle its operational scale, distributing technical and leadership responsibilities among senior executives including Uday Ruddarraju, Brent Mayo, and Spas Lazarov.

The exit marks the 13th senior executive departure at OpenAI in 2026, according to a tally by Business Insider. Recent high-level changes include the exit of Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser—who was succeeded by former Wiz executive Dali Rajic—and the August departure of longtime executive Brad Lightcap. Additionally, Fidji Simo stepped down from her full-time role as CEO of Applications in July to transition to an advisory post, while former Chief Product Officer Kevin Weil, former Chief Marketing Officer Kate Rouch, and former Head of Ethics Chloé Bakalar have also left the company this year.

The leadership churn arrives at a critical juncture as OpenAI pursues large-scale infrastructure leasing arrangements and prepares for a prospective initial public offering. OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar recently informed employees that the company is targeting a 2027 IPO timeline, which could be accelerated depending on market momentum. Amid the ongoing executive transitions, OpenAI co-founder and President Greg Brockman has assumed an expanded internal management role.

OpenAI’s former head of data centers, Chris Malone, has departed the artificial intelligence company following a recent reorganization…

[7
12886,175,73790,12888,3673,826,12890,12892,12889,12885,12891,174,4689,5094,12884,207,157,12887,1162,2926
post-151526","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-openai","tag-ad-tech","tag-advertising","tag-chris-malone","tag-creative-work","tag-customer-experience","tag-digital-marketing","tag-emerging-trends","tag-expert-opinions","tag-industry-insights","tag-influencer-marketing","tag-innovative-strategies","tag-marketing","tag-martech","tag-media-news","tag-mena","tag-middle-east","tag-openai","tag-pr-news","tag-startups","tag-technology-trends
["GET
