Google has launched an artificial intelligence platform designed specifically for lawyers, entering an increasingly crowded market.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the company unveiled<\/a> Gemini Enterprise for Legal, an AI platform with built-in agentic capabilities that purports to streamline workflows and provide users with AI agents capable of completing tasks such as legal research, contract lifecycle management and brief drafting.<\/p>\n

In an Aug. 25 press release<\/a>, Google added that the new platform would integrate with several leading legal technology companies, including LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters, Harvey, Legora, iManage, Courtroom5, Everlaw and others, as well as several consulting and accounting companies, such as Accenture, Deloitte, KPMG and others.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith agentic AI, legal professionals have the ability to research across historical caselaw, build complex arguments and automate mundane tasks that can provide enormous value to their clients. However, ensuring every aspect of these agentic workflows is accurate, factual and grounded in legal authority is of critical importance,\u201d said Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud, in the press release. \u201cGemini Enterprise for Legal helps manage the complex realities of modern legal work while simultaneously providing critical grounding and governance capabilities that allow teams to confidently focus on strategic counsel.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the press release, Am Law firms Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton; Freshfields; Weil, Gotshal & Manges; and Williams & Connolly are already using the platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsing Google\u2019s Gemini Enterprise, which can slot in seamlessly with other daily work tools, we can unlock greater efficiencies for our teams and help them deliver even higher quality work for our clients,\u201d said Jeff Karpf, Cleary Gottlieb\u2019s managing partner, in the press release.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s announcement comes on the heels of several other legal-specific AI offerings from major tech providers in the last few months. Aderant announced Tuesday<\/a> that it would soon launch its AI agent for law firms, while Anthropic unveiled Claude for Legal<\/a> in May, and Microsoft debuted its Legal Agent in Microsoft Word in April<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the Artificial Lawyer, Google\u2019s centrality could potentially give them an edge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe net result is that [Google Enterprise Legal] becomes their home\u2014it becomes the center of their work environment. Their centrality overpowers everyone else\u2019s,\u201d said Richard Tromans, the founder of the Artificial Lawyer, in an Aug. 26 blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n
