The new framework would enable AI agents to control lab and manufacturing instruments, such as microscopes and robotic arms, and perform complex tasks ranging from routine drug discovery experiments to laser calibration on a quantum computer, according to Anthropic.<\/p>\n<p>By integrating agentic AI capabilities with laboratory and manufacturing hardware, the Claude chatbot maker aims to help researchers and engineers run autonomous, round-the-clock workflows with minimal human intervention, potentially speeding up research and production processes.<\/p>\n<p>The standard, Anthropic said, works with any device that has a programmable interface and allows devices and AI agents to communicate across networks. The Model Hardware Standard is designed to work with programmable devices used across scientific research and advanced manufacturing. Users can think of it as being similar to a USB-C cable, which standardises how information is transmitted between devices.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic streamlines hardware choices with custom chips<\/p>\n<p>The announcement signals that Anthropic is moving deeper into hardware, an area where competitors such as OpenAI and Amazon have already invested billions of dollars. Anthropic is also designing custom chips for its models and recently hired Caitlin Lakinowski, a hardware executive who has previously worked at OpenAI, Meta and Apple.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.firstpost.com\/dlxczavtqcctuei\/news18\/static\/images\/fp\/revamp_v1\/tech.svg\" alt=\"tech\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" class=\"nvicsvg\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/>More from Tech<\/p>\n<p>The new MHS aims to streamline hardware setup and make it easier to integrate software with physical devices while ensuring that the functionality remains model-agnostic. This means users would not be tied to Anthropic\u2019s Claude models to use the standard.<\/p>\n<p>MHS is currently available to a select group of organisations in science, robotics and manufacturing as part of a research preview. Anthropic eventually plans to open-source the standard, allowing device manufacturers across industries to adopt it.
