{"id":154906,"date":"2026-08-29T00:48:25","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T00:48:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/154906\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T00:48:25","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T00:48:25","slug":"lawsuit-claims-elon-musks-ai-company-chatbot-grok-produced-child-pornography-based-on-womans-childhood-rapes-the-mercury-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/154906\/","title":{"rendered":"Lawsuit claims Elon Musk\u2019s AI company chatbot Grok produced child pornography based on woman\u2019s childhood rapes \u2013 The Mercury News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A woman repeatedly raped as a child by a man who put photos and videos of the crimes online claims in a lawsuit that Elon Musk\u2019s artificial intelligence firm xAI allowed imagery of her abuse onto its X social media platform, and that the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/02\/16\/grok-nudification-apps-google-apple-silicon-valley-outrage\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Grok chatbot generated additional child pornography<\/a> from the images.<\/p>\n<p>The woman, identified as \u201cJane Doe,\u201d is seeking class-action status for the lawsuit in San Jose U.S. District Court, alleging Grok produced child porn from imagery of her and thousands of other victims of child sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit claims xAI, aiming to add users to X and Grok, designed the chatbot \u201cto respond to prompts to create and distribute sexual content using an identifiable person\u2019s real image or video.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Doe, who is described only as living outside California, is seeking unspecified damages, and a court order barring xAI from generating, possessing or sharing child pornography showing her or other alleged victims.<\/p>\n<p>Her lawsuit filed this week came as Palo Alto-based xAI \u2014 merged in February as a subsidiary into Musk\u2019s rocket company SpaceX \u2014 fights another lawsuit in the same court by three women and one man claiming Grok created <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/06\/03\/bay-area-city-gets-settlement-in-ai-pornography-case-while-deepnude-owner-remains-defiant\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sexualized \u201cdeep fake\u201d images<\/a> of them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/07\/31\/san-jose-judge-xai-bid-name-anonymous-victims-grok-nudification-app\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Judge Casey Pitts in July shot down a bid by xAI<\/a> to have the identities of the four plaintiffs \u2014 who are seeking class action status for their case \u2014 publicly revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The legal cases arose after Grok \u2014 embedded in X and also a stand-alone app \u2014 sparked world-wide outrage after xAI added an image-editing feature to the chatbot in December. The UK-based Center for Countering Digital Hate reported that Grok generated 3 million sexualized images in the 11 days after image editing went live. Users digitally stripped real women in images \u2014 plus more than 20,000 apparent children \u2014 manipulating many into sexual poses, the group found. Musk responded to the furor by reposting an AI-generated image of a toaster in a bikini that he said he \u201ccouldn\u2019t stop laughing\u201d about.<\/p>\n<p>Doe\u2019s lawsuit, overseen by Judge Nathanael Cousins, claims \u201cxAI and its founder Elon Musk chose to capitalize and profit from predators\u2019 appetite for non-consensual sexual images and videos of real people, including children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk\u2019s sharing of the toaster-in-a-bikini image \u201ctriggered a slew of Grok-generated nonconsensual sexualized content,\u201d the lawsuit alleged. \u201cMany of the images Grok produced during this period were sexualized images of children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a separate lawsuit filed in July, xAI challenged Minnesota\u2019s ban on apps and websites used to digitally undress people, arguing that the law is overly broad and unfairly penalizes companies. xAI said in that lawsuit that its terms of service and usage policies prohibit using Grok to undress people or depict them sexually.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, xAI sued a Texas man after his arrest on suspicion of sexually exploiting a minor.
