Google is investing<\/a> $15 billion into AI infrastructure to expand its Gemini offering and core services in Finland, which includes building at least three new data centers<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople don\u2019t realize how scarce the compute capacity<\/a> and the inference capacity is today,\u201d said Justin Copie, CEO of solution provider Innovative Solutions.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s still early days with the amount of capacity that\u2019s available for what we and companies want to do with AI,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s why you see things like usage limits, and you see costs continue to be a thing people are concerned about.\u201d<\/p>\n [Related: Pythian\u2019s IA Model Via Google Gemini Drives \u2018Million-Dollar Outcomes\u2019 For Customers<\/a>]<\/p>\n The tech giant said its $15 billion investment will be spent over the next two years on digital infrastructure, clean energy projects and economic partnerships across Finland.<\/p>\n Innovative Solutions\u2019 CEO said hyperscalers like Amazon and Google are \u201csinking so much capital expense into data centers today\u201d with the goal of seeing massive \u201cROI in two, three or maybe even four years from now because they know that it\u2019s absolutely needed.\u201d<\/p>\n Google\u2019s $205 Billion Spending Plan For 2026<\/p>\n Google\u2019s investment overseas is part of Google\u2019s $205 billion CapEx<\/a> spending plan in 2026 focused on AI infrastructure<\/a> and data centers as demand for compute capacity explodes.<\/p>\n The $205 billion figure is an increase from Google\u2019s initial estimate of spending around $190 billion and capital expenditures at the start of the year.<\/p>\n The Mountain View, Calif.-based tech giant expects to continue increasing CapEx spending significantly into 2027.<\/p>\n In terms of Google\u2019s new $15 billion investment in Finland, Bikash Koley, vice president of Google\u2019s global infrastructure, said the goal is to \u201cmeet growing demand for Google\u2019s core services\u2014such as Search, Maps and Gemini<\/a>\u2014 that people and businesses rely on every day.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c[It\u2019s] our largest single investment in Europe,\u201d said Koley in a statement.<\/p>\n Google\u2019s $15 Billion Investment Details; Nokia To Provide Tech<\/p>\n Google will invest billions in building three new data centers in Finland in the regions of Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala.<\/p>\n The company will also expand its existing facility in Hamina.<\/p>\n The project is expected to support more than 37,000 jobs across Finland during the construction phase and around 7,000 jobs once the facilities are operational.<\/p>\n Elisa Oyj and Nokia will provide the telecommunications and network infrastructure needed to connect the new data centers, Google said.<\/p>\n Construction is set to begin in 2027.<\/p>\n America\u2019s Data Center Capacity To Double In Three Years<\/p>\n America\u2019s data center capacity will double in the next three years driven by aggressive hyperscalers\u2014like AWS and Google\u2014building out their data center footprint with over 700 data centers already in the pipeline in the U.S. alone.<\/p>\n \u201cThe U.S. will continue to account for over half of the world\u2019s data center capacity, and total U.S. capacity will double over the next three years,\u201d said John Dinsdale, chief analyst and research director for Synergy Research Group, in an email to CRN last month.<\/p>\n
