CNBC reporting, you saw this. Microsoft was looking at buying Cursor before Elon Musk and and SpaceX swooped in. They’re siting sources here. Maybe maybe start big picture. Remind folks, what is Cursor? Why why all the excitement for this startup?

   00:23 Speaker B

It’s basically an AI tool that allows you to help uh uh to code faster. So it’s AI coding, right? And so you can use something like this uh to help you if you’re uh you know, writing uh code for any number of programs that you need to work on. And so, you know, I have friends that use it uh regularly, they they really like it. But you know, they mentioned that I don’t make mistakes every once in a while, but they they say it does help them speed up. Um, I had one friend though say that it went ahead and just deleted a bunch of code that she was previously working on. Uh thankfully she had saved beforehand, so it, you know, she was able to revert back. But

   01:14 Speaker B

that’s just kind of par for the course with AI at this point. Uh but it is I think interesting to see that Microsoft was looking at this when, you know, they work with OpenAI, you know, they they have their own internal AI. uh for uh SpaceX X Tesla, you know, to to be interested in this really goes to show that they’re putting a lot of emphasis on how they can build their AI faster and and software more generally, right? Um they have that idea for the Terra fab. Uh we’ll see what happens there, the largest chip manufacturing facility on the planet. Um but I I do think that this idea of them uh buying cursor is very, very interesting and just shows that we’ll probably see more of this when it comes to these companies that you you and I may not, you know, use their products, but a whole heck of a lot of people who are doing development development work are going to use them.

   02:08 Speaker A

Did you look at this story though, by the way and think Microsoft missed? That Sachin Nadella should have pulled the trigger? Or did you think Sachin’s playing a different game?

   02:18 Speaker B

I think it’s interesting because they’ve been criticized for not spending enough on building out their AI data centers, right? And so you look at that, you look at this. Does that mean that they’re they’re being too tight with their cash? Well, they’re still spending billions of dollars, you know. So it’s not like they’re just sitting there on their hands and saying, no, we’re not going to reach for the check. But they I I think if if you’re being critical of Microsoft or you’re looking at it from a critical lens, um or overly critical lens, you may say that this is a a missed opportunity, but I think the money is at this point for them better spent building out their data centers and and their AI capacity to keep up with the demand that they have on their own because don’t forget they’re building their own foundation models and for a uh open AI as well as their customers. They so I think it’s it makes more sense for them to use that on that build out rather than purchasing cursor.

00:00 Speaker A Stick with Microsoft.
