Excel users can get help with formulas, data analysis, and creating charts. PowerPoint gets assistance with building presentations and updating slides. <\/p>\n<p>Each of these features has been added to hopefully cut your work time down significantly. <\/p>\n<p>However, while Microsoft is supercharging Copilot across its Office apps, it\u2019s taking a very different approach with Windows 11\u2019s built-in tools like NotePad and Snipping Tool. <\/p>\n<p>This follows a promise Microsoft made earlier this year, when the company said it would reduce \u201cunnecessary Copilot entry points\u201d across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/tech\/how-to-upgrade-windows-11\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Windows 11\u2014 the latest operating system for your device<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Microsoft explains in a statement: &#8220;You will see us be more intentional about how and where Copilot integrates across Windows, focusing on experiences that are genuinely useful and well-crafted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"23200\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"536f2254e6715a340ae8d7bae1282ad9\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201416%20870'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/windows-notepad-settings.jpg\" width=\"1416\" height=\"870\" alt=\"Windows Notepad settings\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You can still generate text, rewrite content, change tone, and switch between casual and formal styles on Notepad, a pre-installed text editor<\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.windowslatest.com\/2026\/04\/26\/microsoft-drops-copilot-branding-in-notepad-for-windows-11-for-everyone-but-its-really-just-a-rename\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WINDOWS LATEST<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>For instance, Notepad \u2014 a preinstalled text editor \u2014 has quietly lost all its Copilot branding. Microsoft has simply renamed them &#8220;Writing Tools.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But its current AI features haven&#8217;t actually gone anywhere. You can still generate text, rewrite content, change tone, and switch between casual and formal styles. The company now describes these as &#8220;Smarter writing tools&#8221; rather than anything AI-related.<\/p>\n<p>When you install a fresh copy of Notepad, Microsoft explains: &#8220;Select text to refine clarity, tone, or structure with Rewrite. Summarise condenses longer sections into key highlights.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The feature remains optional and can be switched on\/off in Settings under Advanced Features. <\/p>\n<p>Follow these steps to turn the feature on: <\/p>\n<p>Open Notepad after installing a fresh copy.  Type or paste the text you want to edit.   Highlight the portion of text you\u2019d like to improve.   Choose Rewrite to refine clarity, tone, or structure.   Alternatively, select Summarise to condense longer text into key points.   Review and apply the suggested changes.  <\/p>\n<p>To turn the feature off:<\/p>\n<p>Go to Settings within Notepad. This tool lets you capture, edit, and share screenshots or screen recordings. But now Microsoft has completely removed AI from this built-in feature.<\/p>\n<p>The Copilot button has been removed from the production version of the app. This means if you have the most up-to-date Snipping Tool from the Microsoft Store, you won&#8217;t find any AI features at all.<\/p>\n<p>So while Notepad has undergone a rebrand, Snipping Tool has received a complete AI removal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"3f60b\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"cacc72b55efa5265ed7b62f78d5c9b57\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%202000%201125'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/windows-11-ai-task-bar.png\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1125\" alt=\"Windows 11 AI task bar\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft is pressing ahead with plans to add AI agents to the Windows taskbar as an optional feature, which is still being tested<\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.windowslatest.com\/2026\/04\/18\/microsoft-confirms-ai-agents-are-still-coming-to-the-windows-11-taskbar-as-it-prepares-for-public-rollout\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WINDOWS LATEST<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite these changes, Microsoft is pressing ahead with plans to add AI agents to the Windows taskbar as an optional feature. Instead of opening apps manually, your computer has AI-powered assistants (\u201cagents\u201d) sitting right on the taskbar, ready to:<\/p>\n<p>answer questionsautomate tasksinteract with your files and appsact on your behalf<\/p>\n<p>It could be a great addition if you want to minimise how many windows you have open at once, keeping your desktop more organised. <\/p>\n<p>This feature is still being tested before it rolls out to everyone. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Microsoft is dialling back on the features of its Copilot Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant.
