{"id":2010,"date":"2026-04-09T21:26:28","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T21:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/2010\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T21:26:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T21:26:28","slug":"citi-ai-cuts-account-opening-times-by-1-hour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/2010\/","title":{"rendered":"Citi AI Cuts Account Opening Times by 1 Hour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citigroup.com\/global\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Citigroup<\/a> has identified an initial 50 processes that it aims to automate, and the bank is already seeing results from those it has transformed, Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/finance\/citigroup-says-ai-helps-speed-account-openings-systems-upgrades-2026-04-08\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> Wednesday (April 8), citing its interview with Citi Head of Technology and Business Enablement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/timfryan?utm_source=share&amp;utm_campaign=share_via&amp;utm_content=profile&amp;utm_medium=ios_app\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Ryan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The bank\u2019s initial focus includes processes such as client and employee onboarding, and some know your customer (KYC) processes, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>It is already using artificial intelligence to streamline account openings, automate coding and migrate data from legacy systems. In one application of the technology, AI has reduced the time needed to review documents before opening an account in the U.S. for the services division from an hour and 15 minutes to just 15 minutes, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Citi is reducing the percentage of its technology workforce that is made up of contractors from 50% a year ago to 20%, and it has increased its tech workforce to about 50,000 people as it develops and deploys AI tools, per the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still have legacy systems, but after the tech investments we\u2019ve made, we are in a much better place,\u201d Ryan told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>The PYMNTS Intelligence report \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/study\/2025-state-of-fraud-and-financial-crime-in-the-united-states\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2025 State of Fraud and Financial Crime in the United States<\/a>\u201d found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/fraud-prevention\/2026\/68-percent-of-banks-turn-to-ai-as-fraud-outpaces-rule-based-systems\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">financial institutions<\/a> are investing more aggressively in AI, behavioral analytics and cloud infrastructure to keep pace with increasingly sophisticated forms of fraud.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p>\n<p>It was reported in February that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/artificial-intelligence\/2026\/banks-shift-ai-from-chatbots-autonomous-money-movement\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">agentic AI<\/a> is moving beyond experimental pilots and into the operational core of financial institutions.
