The company\u2019s latest moves reflected a belief that agentic AI needed to progress beyond just replacing tasks for humans, according to AWS Chief Executive Matt Garman<\/a> (pictured). He noted during a briefing for media and analysts in San Francisco today that Amazon\u2019s Prime Video unit implemented several of the new agentic solutions for a major rewrite of internal code prior to today\u2019s release.<\/p>\n \u201cInstead of it taking two years, it took two quarters,\u201d Garman said. \u201cYou can change those business processes for the better.\u201d<\/p>\n Agents as teammates<\/p>\n Speed of development was a primary theme among Amazon\u2019s various announcements. The\u00a0 enhancements for Connect introduced new tools<\/a> for deploying AI-native payment processing workflows in weeks. It\u2019s part of building AI agents that operate as true work partners, explained Colleen Aubrey<\/a>, senior vice president of Applied AI Solutions at AWS.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is not about delivering another pretty dashboard,\u201d Aubrey said. \u201cWe need to build agentic teammates.\u201d<\/p>\n Jigar Thakkar of AWS spoke about Amazon Quick at the briefing for media and analysts in San Francisco.<\/p>\n The revamping of Amazon Quick was designed to address the friction that developers often encounter when employing AI tools. AWS has positioned Quick<\/a> as more than a familiar AI conversational interface, characterizing it as an intuitive solution powered by a personal knowledge graph that connects a user\u2019s files, calendar, email and apps while learning on the fly.<\/p>\n \u201cThe way we work is not working,\u201d said Jigar Thakkar<\/a>, vice president of agentic AI for business. \u201cQuick connects the dots. Quick knows you, wherever work happens. Every time you use Quick, it learns from you.\u201d<\/p>\n Integration with OpenAI<\/p>\n The latest releases from AWS came against a backdrop this week of shifting dynamics between major model providers and hyperscalers. OpenAI and Microsoft Corp. announced<\/a> on Monday that they would revise their technology partnership to allow ChatGPT\u2019s developer models to become available on Amazon Bedrock.<\/p>\n Colleen Aubrey, senior vice president of AWS\u2019 Applied AI Solutions, spoke at the AWS event in San Francisco.<\/p>\n Today AWS made several additional announcements<\/a> that included Bedrock-managed agents powered by OpenAI and an integration of Codex into Amazon\u2019s single application programming interface for accessing foundation models. Customers will now be able to build with OpenAI models in AWS, in concert with the cloud provider\u2019s services, security controls, identity systems and procurement processes.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s wild to be thinking that we had nothing eight weeks ago, and now we\u2019re onstage talking about all of the things we are building together,\u201d\u00a0Anthony Liguori<\/a>, vice president and distinguished engineer at Amazon, said during a panel session to discuss OpenAI. \u201cThe next year is going to completely revolutionize the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n For some observers, today\u2019s announcements involving AWS and OpenAI could provide further evidence that the software-as-a-service or SaaS industry is facing imminent collapse, often referred to as the \u201cSaaSpocalypse.\u201d<\/a> AWS\u2019 Garman does not see this as a likely outcome, at least for those firms that get with the program.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2019SaaSpocalypse is a fun word, but it is probably a little bit overblown honestly,\u201d Garman said. \u201cIncumbent providers of applications have such a huge advantage.
