{"id":20900,"date":"2026-04-29T01:17:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T01:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/20900\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T01:17:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T01:17:08","slug":"eu-countries-lawmakers-fail-to-reach-deal-on-watered-down-ai-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/20900\/","title":{"rendered":"EU countries, lawmakers fail to reach deal on watered-down AI rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">By Foo Yun Chee<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">BRUSSELS, April 29 (Reuters) &#8211; EU countries and European Parliament lawmakers failed to reach a deal on watered-down landmark <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:artificial \u200cintelligence;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial \u200cintelligence<\/a> rules after 12 hours of negotiations on Tuesday and will resume \u200ctalks next month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The changes to the AI Act, which entered into force in August 2024 \u200bwith key elements set to be enforced in stages starting this year, are part of the European Commission&#8217;s Digital Omnibus, which aims to simplify a slew of regulations in the digital sector to help businesses catch up with U.S. and Asian rivals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Europe&#8217;s \u200cAI rules, considered to be \u2060the strictest in the world, came amid concerns about the impact of the technology on children, workers, companies and cybersecurity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It \u2060was not possible to reach an agreement with the European Parliament,&#8221; a Cypriot official said. Cyprus currently holds the rotating EU Council presidency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dutch lawmaker Kim van Sparrentak \u200bcriticised the \u200bfailure to reach a deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Big Tech is \u200bprobably popping champagne.
