Under the agreement, the company must also help configure safeguards and filters if\u00a0requested by\u00a0US\u00a0authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The contract states that the technologies must not be\u00a0used to\u00a0monitor US\u00a0citizens or\u00a0in\u00a0autonomous weapons without proper human control and oversight. At\u00a0the same time, Google will not be\u00a0able to\u00a0restrict the use of\u00a0its AI\u00a0models within lawful operations.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0Google representative told Reuters that the company supports both classified and unclassified projects with government agencies. The company views Pentagon access to\u00a0its AI\u00a0infrastructure as\u00a0a\u00a0responsible approach to\u00a0national security.<\/p>\n<p>Before the contract was signed, more than 600 Google employees appealed to\u00a0CEO Sundar Pichai not to\u00a0provide the US\u00a0military with AI\u00a0models for classified operations.
