PHOENIX (AZFamily) \u2014 More consumers are using artificial intelligence (AI) to save money when negotiating prices.<\/p>\n
People are using AI to level the playing field when it comes to negotiating rent, salaries, car prices and subscription fees.<\/p>\n
Andres Lares, managing partner of the Shapiro Negotiations Institute<\/a>, said AI is a tool to help with research and preparation.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can ask, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m looking for this job or this type of home in this area, and what are all the comparables.\u2019 It can do a lot of the research for you,\u201d Lares said. \u201cSo that\u2019s the good, but it\u2019s important to have the one caveat which is you got to check its work. We\u2019re still in a place where there\u2019s a few hallucinations. So, you don\u2019t want to anchor your entire negotiations on one precedent that AI spit out without you checking that source.\u201d<\/p>\n Using AI for brainstorming<\/p>\n Lares said AI is best for brainstorming. Questions could include: What are five different ways I could frame this? Or how would I write an email? Give me two or three different options.<\/p>\n AI can also help come up with negotiables.<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s say you\u2019re negotiating a salary or compensation for your job. Often times we\u2019re only thinking of the salary component. We\u2019re not thinking about the paid time off, remote work, title. What expenses are covered, parking spots, it could be anything right. How much a 401(k) match is, all these things,\u201d Lares said. \u201cIf you kind of have it give you a list of things you can negotiation, sometimes you\u2019ll find something you haven\u2019t thought about.\u201d<\/p>\n Consumers can practice coming up with answers to pushback they might receive, or AI can help recognize delay tactics.
