{"id":2123,"date":"2026-04-10T01:54:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T01:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/2123\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T01:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T01:54:11","slug":"chinese-startup-shengshu-raises-293-million-to-advance-artificial-general-intelligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/2123\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese startup ShengShu raises $293 million to advance artificial general intelligence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">BEIJING\/SINGAPORE, April 10 (Reuters) &#8211; Chinese <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;artificial intelligence&quot;}\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> startup ShengShu Technology has raised 2 billion yuan ($292.59 million) in a funding round \u200cled by Alibaba Cloud, the company said on Friday, as \u200ccompetition intensifies in China&#8217;s AI sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">ShengShu said the funding would support development of a &#8220;general world \u200bmodel&#8221; that processes sensory information to simulate human perception and interaction, which the company describes as a step toward artificial general intelligence in physical environments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The company did not provide a timeline for when such a system \u200cwould be commercially available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Chinese companies \u2060ranging from industry giants like ByteDance to startups such as humanoid robot specialist Unitree have begun exploring similar &#8220;world \u2060model&#8221; technologies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">ShengShu said the funding round included investments from Andon Haitang, China Internet Investment Fund, TAL Education Group, and Luminous Ventures. Existing investors LINK-X CAPITAL, \u200bDelta \u200bCapital, and Baidu Ventures also increased \u200btheir stakes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Founded in early 2023 \u200cby Tsinghua University alum Zhu Jun, ShengShu became the first Chinese company to release a video generation model when it launched Vidu in April 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The model was positioned as a competitor to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/organizations\/openai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:OpenAI;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;OpenAI&quot;}\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI<\/a>&#8216;s Sora, which the U.S. company later discontinued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">ShengShu has since released several updated versions of \u200cVidu, including the Vidu Q3 model announced \u200bearlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The company has also recently \u200bexpanded into robotics applications.
