Using Google Gemini and Google’s Nano Banana and Veo models, users will be able to edit images and create videos using just a voice prompt.

“We’re unlocking the TV’s potential as a shared creative canvas,” Google said today. From the new Gemini tab, which will roll out first to Gemini-enabled TCL Google TV models in the US, users will be able to select “Create” and use prompts to remix photos from their Google Photos library, add motion to an existing image, or create an AI-generated video from scratch. Video generation will require a premium Google AI subscription starting at $7.99/month, however.

The Google Photos experience on Google TV is also adding a Gemini-powered search feature, which will surface relevant photos based on what users ask. With Google Photos Remix, Google TV users will also be able to give a new artistic style, such as watercolor or oil pointing to their photos. Just like the AI-powered creation features, Google Photos search and Remix will roll out first to Gemini-enabled Google TV devices in the US.

On Google TV devices with at least 2GB of RAM, a new Dynamic Slideshow feature will allow users to create a unique screensaver that uses their Google Photos library. This new experience is available from the Google TV screensaver settings, and it’s available globally.

Starting this summer, Google also plans to integrate vertical YouTube Shorts videos right on the Google TV home screen. This will be done via the addition of a new “Short videos for you” row. However, now that YouTube allows mobile users to completely hide Shorts videos, maybe Google TV would like to have a similar option.

Google is starting to roll out new AI-powered creative features on its Google TV platform.
