This is the question at the heart of AI anxieties across many industries right now. For Journalists, this question is constantly being re-pondered and re-examined as more companies are incorporating AI into their workflows. AI can help with research and background. It can do transcriptions and translations, generate illustrations, and produce podcasts with non-human hosts. It can now even write and edit pieces itself. And yet, AI-related job cuts in Journalism seem to be marginal – for now. Around two-thirds of the Media Managers the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism surveyed for its Trends and Predictions report said they haven’t cut any jobs due to AI. This might be starting to change. Earlier this month, the Union that represents Associated Press Journalists said that more than 120 Staff Members received buyout offers, just as the company expressed its intention to pivot toward AI and video. But changes are going beyond potential job cuts. AI adoption is widespread and Journalists are protecting themselves from becoming collateral damage in this new era of disruption. As usual, things are moving especially fast in the U.S. where Unionized workers are revolting against their company’s efforts to introduce AI in their workflows. Unions at three newspapers – The Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee and The Kansas City Star – filed grievances against their parent company McClatchy over the implementation of a new AI tool.

To Continue Reading This Labor News Report, Go To: “Like nailing jell-o to a wall”: Why unions are struggling to protect journalists’ rights in the age of AI | Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism

Graphic Courtesy Of The Reuters Institute For The Study Of Journalism.

Gretel Kahn at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism reports: Will AI (Artificial Intelligence) come for my…

[2
24,25,11601,11602,11603
post-21994","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ai","tag-ai","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-labor-news","tag-western-new-york","tag-wny
["GET
