Early adopters should plan recovery and access policies before enabling the feature.

OpenAI takes account security seriously. The company launched Advanced Account Security (AAS) – a suite of optional protections for ChatGPT users, designed primarily for high-value users, but available to anyone who wants it.

As part of this program, OpenAI announced a partnership with Yubico to tie two new co-branded security products to ChatGPT accounts: YubiKey C NFC and YubiKey C Nano. The companies said that this partnership is intended to protect users from rising phishing threats among chatbot users.

These are security hardware keys – compact devices that connect to a computer via USB and store a unique cryptographic identifier, allowing login to the linked account only when the key itself is present.

What is Advanced Account Security and why does it matter

AAS is aimed at users who work with sensitive data or operate in high-risk environments: journalists, researchers and others, including corporate clients, where confidential information may be stored in ChatGPT sessions.

Security hardware keys provide far stronger protection than passwords and conventional authentication methods, reducing the risk of phishing, since access is possible only with the specific device.

In the context of rising threats in the AI space, the cybersecurity field continues to move forward: other market players are also presenting solutions to protect data and interactions in the digital environment. At the same time, the use of security keys requires caution: a lost key can complicate recovery of access.

OpenAI also notes that implementing such technologies requires careful access management and configuration, as this affects usability and portability in business environments.

Thus, the joint actions of OpenAI and Yubico underscore the growing attention to ChatGPT users’ cybersecurity and the importance of data protection in the world of artificial intelligence.

A new optional suite gives ChatGPT users stronger defenses with co-branded YubiKey devices.
