Western Digital, whose shares have more than doubled this year, also slipped nearly 8% even as it forecast quarterly revenue \u200cabove estimates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Western Digital and \u2060Sandisk&#8217;s outlooks are &#8220;failing to provide the necessary &#8216;wow factor&#8217; needed to sustain the breakneck momentum,&#8221; Michael Ashley Schulman, Partner at Cerity \u2060Partners said, addressing the sell-off of the stocks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The explosive growth in generative AI, which requires massive computational power and storage, has boosted demand for the company&#8217;s \u200bhigh-performance \u200benterprise solid-state drives in data centers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:AI systems;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;AI systems&quot;}\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI systems<\/a> \u200brequire more data storage, driving \u200cdemand for flash-memory chips faster than supply can keep up. This shortage allows Sandisk to charge higher prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The company expects revenue of between $7.75 billion and $8.25 billion for the fourth quarter, compared with analysts&#8217; average estimate of $6.49 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">It also expects adjusted profit between $30 and $33 \u200cper share, above estimates of $22.70.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u201cThis quarter marks a \u200bfundamental inflection point for Sandisk \u2014 where our \u200btechnology leadership is enabling a \u200bdeliberate shift in our mix toward the highest-value end \u200cmarkets, led by Datacenter,\u201d CEO David Goeckeler \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Revenue in the \u200bcompany&#8217;s Datacenter segment, which includes high-capacity flash memory storage solutions, more than tripled in the third quarter to $1.47 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">It reported a 97% rise \u200bin third-quarter revenue \u200cto $5.95 billion, beating estimates of $4.70 billion.
