{"id":24046,"date":"2026-05-01T06:22:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T06:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/24046\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T06:22:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T06:22:08","slug":"openais-president-says-ai-has-gone-from-writing-20-to-80-of-your-code","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/24046\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI&#8217;s President Says AI Has Gone From Writing 20% to &#8216;80% of Your Code&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AI coding tools have rapidly advanced in recent months, says <a target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ai-compute-compensation-software-engineers-greg-brockman-2026-3\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;tout_click&quot;,&quot;index&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;,&quot;product_field&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">OpenAI&#8217;s president<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n                          Loading audio narration&#8230;\n                        <\/p>\n<p>At a Sequoia Capital talk uploaded Thursday, Greg Brockman said that AI has become more than just a supporting tool for software engineers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you look even over the course of December, we went from these agentic coding tools writing 20% of your code to writing 80% of your code,&#8221; Brockman said. &#8220;Which means they go from being kind of a sideshow to being the main thing that you&#8217;re doing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Brockman, who <a target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/openai-trial-witnesess-who-will-testify-musk-altman-nadella-brockman-2026-4\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;tout_click&quot;,&quot;index&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;,&quot;product_field&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cofounded the AI company<\/a> in 2015, said he would advise founders to &#8220;lean in&#8221; and embrace AI tools because they&#8217;re making rapid strides.<\/p>\n<p>For example, he said, Codex \u2014 OpenAI&#8217;s code-generation platform \u2014 has recently evolved from a tool primarily for software engineers to one that can support &#8220;anyone who&#8217;s doing work with a computer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Still, Brockman said OpenAI ensures that a human is responsible for all code that is merged.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That thoughtfulness of not just saying &#8216;oh just blindly use&#8217; this or &#8216;we don&#8217;t want to use this at all.&#8217; I think neither extreme is quite right,&#8221; he said about AI-generated code.<\/p>\n<p>AI&#8217;s rapidly growing role in writing code<\/p>\n<p>Brockman is part of a group of tech leaders touting AI&#8217;s ability to generate a large chunk of a company&#8217;s code.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that 75% of new code created inside the company is now generated by AI and reviewed by human engineers.<\/p>\n<p>That figure has risen rapidly in recent years, from 25% <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/google-earnings-q3-2024-new-code-created-by-ai-2024-10\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;tout_click&quot;,&quot;index&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;,&quot;product_field&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">in 2024<\/a> to 50% last year.<\/p>\n<p>Meta is looking to make headway in this area as well.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Business Insider reported that Meta expected 65% of engineers in its <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/meta-ai-push-employee-goals-tool-adoption-2-026-3\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;tout_click&quot;,&quot;index&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;,&quot;product_field&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">creation organization<\/a> \u2014 responsible for building and maintaining core creative experiences \u2014 to write more than 75% of their committed code using AI.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/anthropic-ceo-ai-90-percent-code-3-to-6-months-2025-3\" data-track-click=\"{&quot;element_name&quot;:&quot;body_link&quot;,&quot;event&quot;:&quot;tout_click&quot;,&quot;index&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;,&quot;product_field&quot;:&quot;bi_value_unassigned&quot;}\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei<\/a> has also predicted how much code AI will generate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think we will be there in three to six months, where AI is writing 90% of the code.
