OpenAI<\/a> announced a set of new account security features this week, including the option to use USB security keys to lock your ChatGPT account down. That\u2019s alongside what OpenAI is calling Advanced Account Security, which is an opt-in setting that strengthens everything from sign-in protections to account recovery.<\/p>\n

In a blog post<\/a> announcing the changes, OpenAI says Advanced Account Security \u201cbrings together a set of heightened security measures that help safeguard against account takeover while making those protections easier to activate in one place.\u201d Turning it on protects logins by requiring passkeys or physical security keys and completely disables password-based logins. It also disables email and SMS account recovery, requiring backup passkeys, security keys and recovery keys if you get locked out of your account.<\/p>\n

Turning on Advanced Account Security also makes sign-in sessions shorter to reduce how long your account is exposed if a session is hijacked. You\u2019ll also receive alerts whenever someone signs into your account, and you can review and manage active sessions in your account settings. Finally, you\u2019ll automatically be opted out of letting your conversations be used for model training.<\/p>\n

As part of the launch of Advanced Account Security, OpenAi says it has partnered with Yubico, who makes YubiKey devices, which are physical USB security keys you can use with ChatGPT. It\u2019s offering ChatGPT users \u201cpreferred pricing\u201d on a bundle that includes the YubiKey C Nano<\/a> and YubiKey C NFC.<\/p>\n
