In a letter slated to go to management on Tuesday and shared exclusively with the Guardian, workers at Google\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/deepmind\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DeepMind<\/a>, the company\u2019s AI research laboratory, requested recognition of the Communication Workers Union and Unite the Union as joint representatives of the lab\u2019s UK-based staff. DeepMind\u2019s UK workers voted to unionize in April. One of the workers said they were particularly driven by reports that Google was close to reaching a deal with the US defense department. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/may\/04\/google-deepmind-uk-workers-union\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Guardian\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Apple today seeded the release candidate versions of upcoming iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the software coming a week after Apple released the fourth betas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1042492\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/iOS-26.5-Glass-Feature-Warm.jpg\"   alt=\"iOS 26\" width=\"578\" height=\"325\"\/><br \/>Registered developers can download the betas from the Settings app on the iPhone or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/roundup\/ipad\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iPad<\/a> by going to the General section and selecting Software Update. iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 do not include new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/guide\/siri\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Siri<\/a>\u00a0capabilities, suggesting any \u200cSiri\u200c updates are being held until\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/roundup\/ios-27\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iOS 27<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2026\/05\/04\/ios-26-5-rc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mac Rumors<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Apple will doubtless launch its next iPhones in September. And it looks like this fall will see three phones: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the company\u2019s first folding phone, which is increasingly believed to be called iPhone Ultra, but could still be named iPhone Fold. But when will we see these new models, exactly? It finally felt as though the future that Star Trek promised us was here, with a personal assistant you could talk to. Mr Li\u2019s CK Hutchison, which currently owns 49pc of the UK mobile network operator, has struck a deal with Vodafone to sell its holding by cancelling shares. The move, which will give Vodafone full control of the company, is expected to be completed in the second half of the year. In the meantime, it seems that a Hollywood actor has been pictured wearing the so-called \u2018WH-1000XX The ColleXion\u2019 before the Met Gala. From the picture above, it is evident that Damson Idris is wearing a pair of Sony over-ear headphones.
