The CFTC said in March that it was launching the ITF and that the task force would be dedicated to advancing \u201cclear rules of the road\u201d for those who want to build novel products and technologies within U.S.\u00a0derivatives markets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The ITF will work with the CFTC to develop a clear regulatory framework for crypto assets and blockchain technologies; artificial intelligence and autonomous systems; and prediction markets and event contracts, the regulator said in a March 24 press release.<\/p>\n

The initial members of the ITF named Friday (April 10) include staff from across the CFTC as well as individuals with extensive private-sector experience with these issues, the CFTC said in a Friday press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The five newly named senior advisors are\u00a0Hank Balaban<\/a>, who previously practiced law at\u00a0Latham & Watkins<\/a>\u00a0in the firm\u2019s Digital Asset and Emerging Companies practice groups;\u00a0Sam Canavos<\/a>, who was previously a consultant at\u00a0Patomak Global Partners<\/a>\u00a0and advised firms on regulatory matters related to innovative technologies;\u00a0Mark Fajfar<\/a>, who joins ITF from the CFTC\u2019s Office of the General Counsel;\u00a0Eugene Gonzalez IV<\/a>, who previously practiced law at\u00a0Sidley Austin<\/a>\u00a0in the firm\u2019s Blockchain and FinTech practice group; and\u00a0Dina Moussa<\/a>, who joins ITF from the CFTC\u2019s Market Participants Division.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Innovation Task Force brings together a leading team that exhibits deep expertise and an enthusiastic commitment to deliver clear rules of the road for American innovators,\u201d CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig<\/a>\u00a0said in the release.<\/p>\n

The CFTC announced in March that the task force is led by\u00a0Michael J. Passalacqua, senior adviser to the\u00a0chairman\u00a0of the CFTC.<\/p>\n

Passalacqua said in a Friday\u00a0post<\/a>\u00a0on X: \u201cThrilled to be part of a team that pairs deep [CFTC] expertise with private-sector experience ranging from major law firms, [Blockchain Association<\/a>] & [DeFi Education Fund<\/a>].\u201d<\/p>\n

The CFTC launched an\u00a0Innovation Tracker<\/a>\u00a0to spotlight its innovation initiatives, Selig said\u00a0in\u00a0a Thursday\u00a0(April 9)\u00a0post<\/a>\u00a0on X.<\/p>\n
