The new tools \u2014\u00a010 in total \u2014\u00a0are aimed at professionals across banking, insurance, asset management and\u00a0financial technology.\u00a0FactSet Research Systems Inc. shares fell as much 8.1% after the announcement\u00a0while Morningstar Inc. erased earlier gains to fall more than 3%. Shares of S&amp;P Global Inc. and Moody\u2019s Corp. both saw sharp selling pressure as well.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic has established itself\u00a0as a leader in the lucrative market for AI coding tools that streamline the process of software development. Increasingly, the firm is now competing against rival OpenAI to prove its technology can handle a wide range of valuable tasks in other industries, including finance, as the two startups look to bolster revenue ahead of their widely expected initial public offerings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinance is\u00a0a great blueprint for the rest of knowledge work,\u201d said\u00a0Nicholas Lin, Anthropic\u2019s head of product for financial services. Lin added that financial uses of AI are \u201cjust a few months behind\u201d the technology\u2019s coding applications, \u201cwhich we\u2019ve seen massive acceleration in.\u201dIn a sign of the company\u2019s growing influence beyond Silicon Valley, Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei spoke\u00a0about\u00a0AI Tuesday alongside\u00a0JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co.\u2019s\u00a0Jamie Dimon at an Anthropic event\u00a0in New York\u00a0attended by banking industry leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The technology is advancing rapidly, but Amodei\u00a0said businesses typically don\u2019t move as fast. \u201cOur ability to commercialize this technology, to gain revenue for this technology,\u00a0is held back\u00a0not by the power of the models and the economic value it can generate in principal, but that sort of diffusion through the world,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic now has more than 300,000 business customers who use its technologies to automate parts of their work.\u00a0In February, Anthropic introduced plug-ins\u00a0for its Claude software\u00a0tailored for financial analysis, equity research, private equity and wealth management. It also debuted a new model that month that it said was more adept at financial research.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the new offerings announced Tuesday, Anthropic said it is also enabling its Claude AI model\u00a0to work better across third-party software like\u00a0Excel, PowerPoint\u00a0and Outlook, and integrate data from partners in the financial services industry, such as Dun &amp; Bradstreet and\u00a0Moody\u2019s Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic is also deepening its ties in the financial industry through a new joint venture with Blackstone Inc., Hellman &amp; Friedman\u00a0and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The venture will\u00a0work to deploy Anthropic\u2019s software to more businesses. OpenAI has finalized plans for a similar company.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic has begun weighing a fresh funding round that could value the firm at over $900 billion, Bloomberg has reported, potentially leapfrogging OpenAI as the world\u2019s most valuable AI startup.
