Anthropic (ANTH.PVT<\/a>) on Wednesday announced it has signed an agreement to access computing capabilities from Elon Musk\u2019s SpaceX (SPAX.PVT<\/a>).<\/p>\n

According to the agreement, Anthropic will use all of the computing capacity at SpaceX\u2019s Colossus 1 data center. That amounts to more than 300 megawatts of new AI compute via more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs.<\/p>\n

SpaceX said Anthropic has also expressed interest in working with the private space company to develop orbiting AI data centers.<\/p>\n

Financial terms of the deal haven\u2019t been disclosed.<\/p>\n

Anthropic said the additional capacity from Colossus 1, as well as other recent agreements with Amazon (AMZN<\/a>), Google (GOOG<\/a>, GOOGL<\/a>), Microsoft (MSFT<\/a>), and Nvidia (NVDA<\/a>), will enable the company to increase capacity for its Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers.<\/p>\n

The AI startup said it is also extending some of its capacity to international markets to serve customers in regions that operate in regulated markets like healthcare and financial services.<\/p>\n

SpaceX\u2019s xAI offers a competing AI platform called Grok. In a post on X, Musk said he spent the past week with senior members of the Anthropic team.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone I met was highly competent and cared a great deal about doing the right thing. No one set off my evil detector. So long as they engage in critical self-examination, Claude will probably be good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The CEO later added that his company reserves the right to reclaim compute if Anthropic\u2019s AI \u201cengages in actions that harm humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musk also noted that he was comfortable leasing Colossus 1 to the company, because \u201cSpaceXAI had already moved training to Colossus 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthropic and SpaceX, along with OpenAI (OPAI.PVT<\/a>), are each rumored to be planning initial public offerings later this year.<\/p>\n
