LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – As seniors from Louisa County High School prepare to graduate next week, their school division is teaching them about the good and bad uses for AI in their lives after high school.<\/p>\n
\u201cAI is integrating into our world, it\u2019s integrating into our workforce, and whether they go on to college, a career, or into the military, they are going to experience AI,\u201d said Kenny Bouwens, Louisa County Public Schools Director of Career and Technical Education\/Innovation.<\/p>\n
The event was titled \u201cPrompt and Circumstance.\u201d The goal is to get students to understand the power of AI and the options they have to utilize it in their future.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have always been about giving our students as many tools and opportunities as they can to excel, to be creative, to do things in different ways, and to be on the cutting edge,\u201d Bouwens said. \u201cSo for me, that\u2019s what gets me up in the morning, whether it\u2019s teaching them how to use 3D printers, laser cutters, or advanced software. I mean, AI just falls into all that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Students attended three separate lessons; one about the dangers of AI, such as deepfakes, phishing and misinformation. Another was about using AI tools to learn. The last session provided students with tips for things like applying for jobs and analyzing leases and contracts.<\/p>\n
Bouwens said these lessons will reach kids throughout the school division.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just exciting to see the things that they do and create with it and as we build this through K-12, I\u2019m so excited to see the power that we give our students,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Louisa High School\u2019s seniors will graduate on Friday, May 15.<\/p>\n
