{"id":34700,"date":"2026-05-11T14:21:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T14:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/34700\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T14:21:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T14:21:09","slug":"china-deepens-footprint-at-ai-conference-despite-neurips-dispute-us-tensions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/34700\/","title":{"rendered":"China deepens footprint at AI conference despite NeurIPS dispute, US tensions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/big-tech\/article\/3350755\/chinese-tech-giants-advance-robotics-push-sector-sees-rapid-growth?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chinese technology companies<\/a> and researchers turned out in force at a leading global artificial intelligence conference, despite mounting questions over whether they might avoid the event as a consequence of tense relations between Beijing and Washington.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Papers with contributors from mainland China and Hong Kong accounted for over 51 per cent of accepted submissions, compared with just under 32 per cent from the United States, according to statistics compiled from the listed affiliations for 5,355 accepted papers at this year\u2019s International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR).<\/p>\n<p>ICLR, alongside the Conference on <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/article\/3348199\/top-us-ai-conference-apologises-after-sanctions-policy-sparks-backlash-china?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Neural Information Processing Systems<\/a> (NeurIPS) and the International Conference on Machine Learning, is considered one of the top conferences for AI and computational neuroscience.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">This year\u2019s event, held in Rio de Janeiro from April 23 to 27, received about 19,000 submissions with an acceptance rate of 28 per cent.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The strong Chinese presence at ICLR comes after several major professional bodies in China urged domestic researchers to boycott NeurIPS.
