One of the strategic goals outlined in the Corps\u2019 AI implementation plan<\/a>, released last year, is to develop an \u201cAI competent workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEmerging and disruptive technologies (EDT) offer the potential for Marines to gain a decisive advantage but also create the possibility of an adversary exploiting these technologies more effectively. Among these EDTs, artificial intelligence (AI) stands out as the first among equals, demanding our immediate and focused attention,\u201d officials wrote in the new MARADMIN message, which was approved by Lt. Gen. Benjamin Watson, deputy commandant for training and education.<\/p>\n The Corps is now implementing a \u201cbroad educational framework\u201d with a goal of ensuring that \u201cAI-trained Marines are supported by informed peers and leaders\u201d across the service, according to the announcement.<\/p>\n \u201cThe end state of this framework is a Marine Corps where all personnel operate within a culture of innovation, are proficient in AI concepts, and committed to the ethical and effective employment of AI technologies in complex operational environments,\u201d per the message<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Basic AI Course, which officials estimate will take 45 minutes for service members to complete after logging into the MCELE system, is designed to give troops a \u201cfoundational understanding\u201d of artificial intelligence, including key concepts and use cases, such as how AI can support decision-making.<\/p>\n The training content includes links to GenAI.mil<\/a> \u2014 which the Corps<\/a> and the other military services under DOD have adopted<\/a> as their preferred generative artificial intelligence<\/a> platform \u2014 and the use of commercially available large language models<\/a>, according to the notice.<\/p>\n \u201cThe course emphasizes awareness rather than technical expertise, preparing Marines to operate, adapt, and lead in an increasingly AI-enabled Marine Corps,\u201d officials wrote.<\/p>\n Intermediate and advanced-level courses are under development and are expected to be introduced in the next fiscal year, they noted.<\/p>\n The basic course is a one-time training requirement for all Marines.
