Amazon Web Services has hired Microsoft\u2019s former corporate vice president of security and AI, Shawn Bice, to drive the AWS agentic AI services charge<\/a> and to make AI agents<\/a> more accurate.<\/p>\n Bice (pictured) has a total of over 20 years\u2019 experience working at Microsoft<\/a>, helping build and lead key areas such as Microsoft Security Copilot<\/a> and AI Security Research, as well as Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database over his long tenure.<\/p>\n In an internal message sent to AWS employees obtained by CRN, AWS agentic AI<\/a> leader Swami Sivasubramanian said Bice\u2019s hiring comes during agentic AI\u2019s \u201cinflection point\u201d in the industry.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t stress enough how critical AI and Automated Reasoning needs to come together to build reliable and trustworthy agents. This is the fundamental premise that drives our investment in Neurosymbolic AI, and I am excited to have Shawn join us at this crucial moment,\u201d said Sivasubramanian, AWS\u2019 vice president of Agentic AI, in his message to employees.<\/p>\n [Related: Google Cloud\u2019s 6 Key Execs Who Left For Anthropic, OpenAI, Microsoft And Others In 2026<\/a>]<\/p>\n \u201cShawn will report directly to me and lead our Automated Reasoning Group to double down on our Neurosymbolic AI initiatives,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Bice spent the last four years at Microsoft where he led AI Security<\/a> Research, Microsoft Security Copilot, Microsoft Sentinel Platform and the Microsoft Security Store.<\/p>\n Bice also spent 14 years at Microsoft from 2001 to 2016 in various leadership roles, including general manager of Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure SQL Virtual Machines, Azure HDInsight, DocumentDB, SQL Linux, PostgreSQL and MySQL.<\/p>\n Bice officially became vice president of AWS<\/a> AI Services on May 11.<\/p>\n Bice Is A Former AWS Executive<\/p>\n Interestingly, Bice left Microsoft in 2016 to become AWS vice president of databases.<\/p>\n \u201cMany of you may know Shawn from his previous tenure at AWS, where he built and scaled our database services business into one of the fastest-growing segments at Amazon,\u201d said Sivasubramanian in the message to employees.<\/p>\n As vice president of databases, he helped lead key AWS product lines including Amazon Aurora & RDS, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon DocumentDB, Amazon ElastiCache, Amazon Neptune, Amazon Keyspaces, Amazon Quantum Ledger Database and Amazon Timestream, according to his LinkedIn profile.<\/p>\n Bice also did a two-year stint at Microsoft in the late 1990s as a program manager.<\/p>\n \u201cShawn brings decades of experience building and operating cloud services at massive scale, deep customer obsession, and a track record of attracting and developing world-class talent,\u201d Sivasubramanian said.<\/p>\n Bice could not be reached for comment by press time.<\/p>\n AWS Partner: Automated Reasoning Group Is \u2018Hugley Important In This AI World\u2019<\/p>\n One CEO from an AWS partner said Bice\u2019s experience makes him the perfect leader for AWS\u2019 Automated Reasoning Group.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a field that is hugely important in this AI world because it\u2019s basically a security check to make sure the software and AI is doing what it\u2019s supposed to do,\u201d said the CEO, who declined to be identified because he doesn\u2019t personally know Bice.<\/p>\n \u201cOur customers, and us partners too, like to know that when we\u2019re deploying AI<\/a> that it\u2019s going to do what it\u2019s meant to do and not, sort of, deviate from its specifications,\u201d the CEO said.<\/p>\n
