Keep up with the latest news and weather by downloading the WXII app here.In an interview with WXII, she said AI has the ability to significantly expand access to rare disease care.&#8221;Patients will travel all over the country right now to try to get that kind of specialty diagnostics,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd we&#8217;re going to try to bring that to the rural clinics and the primary care centers across the state of North Carolina.\u201dHaendel also explained how AI can integrate disparate patient data into a holistic treatment plan.\u201cThe electronic health record system that tracks information about your visits to the doctor is a tiny, tiny, tiny portion of the things that are out there about you,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd we can link data about you to your environmental location, where you&#8217;ve lived through time, which influences your health. Greg Characklis, with the university\u2019s Institute for Risk Management and Insurance Innovation, said AI is being used to integrate data about disease outbreaks, natural disasters, cyberattacks and other crises so people in his field can better predict and respond to them. \u201cWe have to make ourselves more resilient. We have to put ourselves in a better position to manage them,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd AI, machine learning, data analytics, techniques can all help us do that.\u201dHe said it helps insurers and government officials understand how to price certain crises.\u201cWe take data that is associated with the hazard itself. Right?
