Security Concerns<\/p>\n

First and foremost, it\u2019s important to remember two key things about AI chatbots.<\/p>\n

They are still unreliable and come with a warning within their own search results telling you that you should double-check everything, as answers can be wrong<\/p>\n

Because of these two very important points, there are understandable security concerns about linking your bank account to ChatGPT\u2019s new financial features<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rachel Tobac<\/a>, a cybersecurity expert from San Francisco, CA, writes on LinkedIn<\/a>, \u201cPlease don’t make it easy for me to steal your life savings! ChatGPT + Bank Account integration warning.\u201d She then launches into a long post about how unredacted financial information can lead to financial and identity theft.<\/p>\n

ChatGPT\u2019s New Tool<\/p>\n

Pro users in the U.S. can now link over 12,000 financial institutions to their ChatGPT Pro account, News Nation reports. OpenAI notes that bank account numbers won\u2019t be visible, but the chatbot will be able to \u201caccess a dashboard showing portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.\u201d<\/p>\n

The model is similar to apps like RocketMoney that analyze your bank data to help you better manage your finances. The biggest difference is that RocketMoney connects to your accounts via Plaid, a secure third party. RocketMoney also uses its own bank-grade encryption<\/a> to protect your data. OpenAI offers none of that protection.<\/p>\n

Using The New Tools<\/p>\n

If none of these security concerns give you pause (they should), then you can pay for a monthly Pro subscription to ChatGPT to access the new tools. A Pro account costs $200 per month and can be purchased on the website<\/a> or via an upgrade in the chatbot.<\/p>\n

ChatGPT currently has 200 million monthly users who use its chat to help with their finances. OpenAI decided to streamline that focus by allowing direct access rather than having users continue to upload separate bits.<\/p>\n

For anyone who doesn\u2019t want to pay the monthly ChatGPT fee or who isn\u2019t comfortable linking their bank account, there are financial influencers online who dole out free advice without any security concerns.<\/p>\n
