OpenAI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/22734662\/ai-language-artificial-intelligence-future-models-gpt-3-limitations-bias\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GPT-3 told us<\/a> that AI uses \u201ca series of autocomplete-like programs to learn language\u201d and that these programs analyze \u201cthe statistical properties of the language\u201d to \u201cmake educated guesses based on the words you\u2019ve typed previously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Or, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/1\/5\/23540291\/chatgpt-ai-writing-tool-banned-writing-academic-icml-paper\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in the words of James Vincent<\/a>, a human person: \u201cThese AI tools are vast autocomplete systems, trained to predict which word follows the next in any given sentence. As such, they have no hard-coded database of \u2018facts\u2019 to draw on \u2014 just the ability to write plausible-sounding statements.
