{"id":50903,"date":"2026-05-26T01:27:50","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T01:27:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/50903\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T01:27:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T01:27:50","slug":"pope-leo-says-world-leaders-should-slow-down-when-it-comes-to-artificial-intelligence-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/50903\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope Leo says world leaders should slow down when it comes to artificial intelligence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 Pope Leo XIV warned world leaders on Monday to slow it down when it comes to artificial intelligence in his manifesto.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/leo-xiv\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/20260515-magnifica-humanitas.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/leo-xiv\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/20260515-magnifica-humanitas.html\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The manifesto is titled \u201cMagnifica Humanitas\u201d <\/a>and states that lawmakers should address the availability of AI with \u201cclarity to establish adequate regulatory tools capable of upholding justice and curbing the distorting effects of technological power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He wrote that the technology shouldn\u2019t be considered as a force antagonistic to humanity and it should be used for good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew technologies open up a horizon extending in directions that are imaginable but not yet fully predictable,\u201d the pope wrote. \u201cThis complicates the assessment of their potential impact and the long-term effects they may have on both the dignity of individuals and the common good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/thenationaldesk.com\/news\/americas-news-now\/faith-leaders-call-on-congress-to-minimize-usage-of-ai-weapons-data-centers-senate-wisconsin\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/thenationaldesk.com\/news\/americas-news-now\/faith-leaders-call-on-congress-to-minimize-usage-of-ai-weapons-data-centers-senate-wisconsin\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">faith leaders requested<\/a> that lawmakers ensure that there are legal safeguards to make sure humans control artificial-intelligence weapons.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to members of Congress first obtained by Axios, faith leaders make clear that they want humans controlling <a href=\"https:\/\/thenationaldesk.com\/news\/americas-news-now\/employees-armed-with-ai-skills-see-confidence-boost-for-job-hopping-report-university-of-phoenix-career-institute-2026-career-optimism-index-artificial-intelligence-employee-upskilling-learning-ai\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/thenationaldesk.com\/news\/americas-news-now\/employees-armed-with-ai-skills-see-confidence-boost-for-job-hopping-report-university-of-phoenix-career-institute-2026-career-optimism-index-artificial-intelligence-employee-upskilling-learning-ai\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AI-weapons, not machines.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the manifesto, Pope Leo said there needs to be an open discussion about ethical frameworks regarding AI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalling for prudence, rigorous evaluation and even, at times, a slower pace in adopting AI does not mean opposing progress;
