The <a href=\"https:\/\/news.stanford.edu\/stories\/2026\/03\/stanford-inventions-innovations-computer-mouse-heart-transplant-digital-synthesizer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">computer mouse was invented there<\/a>. So was <a href=\"https:\/\/about.google\/company-info\/our-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Google<\/a>. And now, it\u2019s pumping out a myriad of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2026\/01\/28\/stanford-research-ai-validation-tools-ai-prognosis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tools for artificial intelligence in health care<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But for the last year and a half, Stanford\u2019s hospital has been asking patients about new AI tools before they roll them out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eric Gries is one of those people, handpicked by Stanford as part of a \u201cpatient panel.\u201d Gries was the caregiver for his wife while she was first on a left ventricular assist device (LVAD), then had a heart transplant.
