May 28 (Reuters) – Apollo Global Management and Blackstone are working to bring in additional investors \u200cfor about $36 billion debt financing tied to AI \u200cstartup Anthropic PBC’s efforts to expand its AI infrastructure, Bloomberg \u200bNews reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The debt would be used to buy custom chips from Google. Anthropic would then lease these chips, known as tensor processing units, or TPUs, \u200cthe report said, \u2060citing people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n
Broadcom, which helps Google develop the chips, is backstopping \u2060payments on the largest portions of the transaction, the report added.<\/p>\n
Anthropic said on Thursday it had raised $65 \u200bbillion at \u200ba $965 billion post-money valuation, \u200bsurpassing rival OpenAI, as \u200cthe AI startup looks to expand computing capacity to meet growing demand for its Claude chatbot.<\/p>\n
The Bloomberg report said that Apollo and Blackstone plan to sell down part of the debt while retaining significant portions \u200cthemselves.<\/p>\n
Investors are being asked to \u200bsubmit orders this week, with \u200bthe deal expected \u200bto close next week, the report said, \u200cadding that discussions are ongoing \u200band the \u200bterms could still change.<\/p>\n
Anthropic and OpenAI are eyeing potential IPOs as early as this year.<\/p>\n
Apollo, Blackstone, \u200bAnthropic, Google \u200cand Broadcom did not immediately respond to Reuters’ \u200brequests for comment.<\/p>\n
