The initiative is being led by UNESCO together with regional and international partners including Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF)<\/a>, the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence of Chile (CENIA)<\/a>, the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society of Brazil (CETIC.br)<\/a>,\u00a0the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC)<\/a>, Fundaci\u00f3n Santillana<\/a>, Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey (M\u00e9xico)<\/a>, ProFuturo<\/a>, Universidad del Desarrollo de Chile<\/a>, Fundaci\u00f3n Ceibal <\/a>(Uruguay) and the International Research Centre On Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI)<\/a> , among other regional stakeholders. In addition, the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI)<\/a>, and experts from Harvard University<\/a> and Independent International Scientific Panel on AI<\/a> from United Nations also serve as partners.<\/p>\n

In a context of the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence in education, the Observatory is envisaged as a space for cooperation to bring together knowledge production, institutional strengthening and technical assistance, with the aim of guiding public policies and supporting decision-making in response to the growing incorporation of these technologies into teaching, learning and educational management.<\/p>\n

Through its components on research and policy, capacity development, and innovation and regional collaboration, the Observatory will contribute to generating comparative analyses, identifying opportunities and risks, and supporting the design of regulatory frameworks, national strategies and pilot experiences. In this way, UNESCO is promoting a platform aimed at connecting evidence, innovation and public action so that the use of artificial intelligence helps strengthen education systems without deepening existing inequalities.<\/p>\n

The event is also envisaged as a space for coordination among Ministries of Education, universities, research centres, the technology sector, civil society and multilateral organizations. Its purpose is to encourage ongoing exchange between practice, innovation and public policy, as well as to mobilise concrete commitments from strategic partners around a shared roadmap for the period 2026\u20132029.<\/p>\n

The event will take place from 12 noon to 2.30 p.m. in the Celso Furtado conference room at ECLAC, located at 3477 Avenida Dag Hammarskj\u00f6ld, Vitacura, Santiago, Chile. It will include opening remarks by Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago and Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as a presentation of the Observatory by Valtencir Mendes, Head of Education at the Office.<\/p>\n
