{"id":58146,"date":"2026-06-01T19:48:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T19:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/58146\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T19:48:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T19:48:13","slug":"openai-is-a-menace-sam-altman-knows-it-florida-ag-says-in-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/58146\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI Is A Menace &#038; Sam Altman Knows It, Florida AG Says In Lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith a blistering lawsuit filed Monday, the state of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/florida\/\" id=\"auto-tag_florida\" data-tag=\"florida\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida<\/a> may succeed where <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/elon-musk\/\" id=\"auto-tag_elon-musk\" data-tag=\"elon-musk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elon Musk<\/a> failed in bringing <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/openai\/\" id=\"auto-tag_openai\" data-tag=\"openai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sam-altman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sam-altman\" data-tag=\"sam-altman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Altman<\/a> to heel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cToday, we announced the first-in-the-nation state-led lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman,\u201d Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said this morning after filing <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/altman-open-ai-florida-suit-june-1_Redacted.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an 83-page complaint in the Sunshine State\u2019s 10th Judicial Circuit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cDefendants each owed the State a duty to exercise reasonable care when designing, marketing, selling, promoting, and\/or distributing <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/chatgpt\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chatgpt\" data-tag=\"chatgpt\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ChatGPT<\/a>, including to take all reasonable precautions in ensuring it was safe for use,\u201d the filing against OpenAI\u2019s corporate entities and Altman proclaims. \u201cDefendants owed a heightened duty of care to the State because of the great danger of addiction, cognitive decline, suicide, violence, and related harms in Florida from their designing, marketing, selling, promoting, and\/or distributing ChatGPT.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTo that, the filing seeks injunctions, a halt to data collection from minors and new guardrails galore, plus potentially millions in penalties for violations of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. Heading towards the fall midterms where Big Tech has become a top topic, the action comes in the aftermath of confirmed ChatGPT-consulted shootings that killed two at Florida State University in 2025, and the death of two University of South Florida graduate students this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cOpenAI and Altman ignored internal and external safety warnings, put children at great risk, and allowed a dangerous product to reach millions of Floridians,\u201d Uthmeier added at the press conference. For the record: OpenAI\u2019s Altman personally donated $1 million to Trump\u2019s 2025 inauguration. The CEO was in attendance at the White House soon afterwards joining Oracle boss (and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/paramount\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paramount\" data-tag=\"paramount\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paramount<\/a> chief <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/david-ellison\/\" id=\"auto-tag_david-ellison\" data-tag=\"david-ellison\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Ellison<\/a>\u2018s papa) Larry Ellison for the unveiling of the $500 billion Stargate AI initiative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLast month, with a bevy of CEOs in Washington, D.C., Trump canceled under pressure from Silicon Valley an Executive Order signing and ceremony on a federal AI safety vetting program. Florida\u2019s move to name Altman directly plays into the personality cult many a techlord have fostered to varying degrees with their army of flacks and acting coaches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe suit today \u201cseeks to hold Altman personally liable for the harm he has caused Floridians through his reckless and willful conduct as founder and CEO of OpenAI, including his utter disregard for the risk to human life caused by his firms\u2019 conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tReps for OpenAI and Altman did not respond to Deadline\u2019s request for comment on the Florida action.
