UH has officially partnered with the State Workforce Development Council and Imua \u02bbOnipa\u02bba (a Hawai\u02bbi-based non-profit) for a four-part symposium series titled, \u201cThe AI Transformation: Preparing Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s Workforce for the Future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second event of the series, \u201cThe AI transformation: Preparing Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s workforce for the future \u201d is tentatively scheduled for June 25, 2026, at Honolulu Community College from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. \u201cBuilding an AI ready workforce in Hawai\u02bbi\u201d will focus on the business case for responsible AI adoption, including industry-specific opportunities and risks, workforce impacts, and recommendations for Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s education and training providers. Attendance is capped at 100 and UH faculty, staff and administrators are encouraged to attend.<\/p>\n<p>UH\u2018s participation alongside partners such as the Hawai\u02bbi Department of Education, the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, and Department of Accounting and General Services underscores the university\u2019s vital function as the engine of Hawai\u02bbi\u2018s workforce development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University of Hawai\u02bbi is proud to partner with the State Workforce Development Council on this critical initiative,\u201d UH President Wendy Hensel said. \u201cPreparing our local workforce for the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence is essential for Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s economic resilience. As the state\u2019s primary provider of higher education, UH plays a central role in ensuring our training programs equip residents with the skills and AI literacy needed to thrive in an AI-driven economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bennette E. Misalucha, executive director of the State Workforce Development Council within the Hawai\u02bbi Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, highlighted the necessity of cross-agency collaboration. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHawai\u02bbi has an opportunity not simply to react to the AI transformation, but to thoughtfully prepare our workforce, institutions, and communities to harness AI in ways that strengthen economic resilience and preserve our shared values,\u201d Misalucha said. \u201cThe AI Symposium Series was created to bring together our relevant stakeholders to better understand this moment of change, and to ensure that Hawai\u02bbi is prepared not only for the future of technology, but for the future of its people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first session \u201cWhere is AI and where is it going\u201d was held in April at the Hawai\u02bbi State Capitol. Experts from the <a href=\"https:\/\/aisafetyawarenessproject.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI Safety Awareness Project<\/a> guided attendees through the complex landscape of AI data and policy challenges, privacy frameworks, and AI\u2018s projected impacts on daily life, work, and sociopolitical power dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>UH System Director of Workforce Development Christine Beaule said, \u201cThe State Workforce Development Council\u2019s AI Workforce Readiness series addresses some of the most pressing challenges and promising opportunities to our communities and state.
