HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – The governor is expected to sign a new state law Tuesday morning that will change how children use social media and AI chatbots.<\/p>\n
The bill, which has received bipartisan support, is scheduled to be signed at 10 a.m.<\/p>\n
Chatbot requirements<\/p>\n
The legislation requires chatbots to tell users they are talking to AI and not a real person. <\/p>\n
If a chatbot notices any signs of suicide or self-harm, it should refer the user to mental health resources, including 988.<\/p>\n
Social media protections<\/p>\n
The bill adds restrictions on platforms that use personalized feeds for minors and would show warning signs to block children from seeing sensitive content. <\/p>\n
It also allows parents to set time restrictions for when and how long children can use certain platforms.<\/p>\n
Workplace protections<\/p>\n
The law also includes protections for workers. <\/p>\n
When applying for a job, workplaces would have to let applicants know if AI is being used to sort through applications. <\/p>\n
Employers would not be allowed to use the software in a discriminatory way to look for certain races or genders.<\/p>\n
The bill would require managers to give notice before any mass layoffs and tell workers whether the layoffs are connected to AI or other technological changes.<\/p>\n
