SAN FRANCISCO, June 2 (Reuters) – Microsoft will hold its annual software developer conference on Tuesday, where the company is \u200cexpected to showcase new tools for developers building AI software \u200cfor PCs and the cloud.<\/p>\n
In a keynote address in San Francisco, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella \u200bis expected to outline how the technology company plans to compete both in the cloud, where it is both an investor and a rival to firms such as OpenAI, and increasingly on PCs.<\/p>\n
Those laptop and desktop computers \u200care becoming home to tools \u2060such as OpenClaw, a piece of open-source software that can direct groups of AI bots called agents to carry \u2060out everyday tasks for users.<\/p>\n
But OpenClaw, which has gained popularity in China and helped Microsoft’s longtime rival Apple sell Mac computers, and other such tools \u200bare also \u200brisky for most businesses to use.<\/p>\n
Analysts \u200bexpect Microsoft to work on \u200cmaking such agentic AI tools safer for businesses and the world’s 1 billion users of its Windows operating system to use on a regular basis.<\/p>\n
They also expect more details on how Microsoft will let developers tap a new chip from Nvidia unveiled on Monday to help bring AI directly \u200cto PCs.<\/p>\n
The chip will go into laptops \u200bpriced to compete with Apple’s premium offerings, \u200band its release helped boost \u200bshares of both Microsoft and major PC makers such \u200cas Dell Technologies, though analysts said \u200bit may take \u200btime for businesses to adopt the new machines.<\/p>\n
Analysts also expect Microsoft to provide updates on its own AI models, using which it \u200baims to compete in \u200cfields such as code completion with OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude \u200bCode.<\/p>\n
Nadella’s keynote begins at 1 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
