Sensor Tower indicated that ChatGPT reached one billion monthly active users in May, approximately three years after its launch, outpacing the adoption rates of apps such as <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/alphabet-inc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Google Maps<\/a>, TikTok, <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/meta-platforms-inc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/alphabet-inc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The milestone comes as competition between Anthropic and OpenAI intensifies in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence market. Sensor Tower reported that U.S. ChatGPT users who installed Anthropic&#8217;s Claude app in the first quarter of 2026 spent five percent less time on ChatGPT one month after installation, compared with their average usage over the previous eight months.<\/p>\n<p>Anthropic confidentially filed for a U.S. initial public offering on Monday. Reuters has also reported that OpenAI is preparing to file for an IPO in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sensor Tower, as of the second quarter to date, Claude had 56 million global monthly active app users.
