Is a new tech war brewing?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">As artificial intelligence steps out of the digital realm and into the real world, the race to build the embodied \u201cbrains\u201d powering next-generation robots has become the newest battleground in tech competition between China and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Two days after US chip giant <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/nvidia?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nvidia<\/a> launched its Cosmos 3 model \u2013 designed to help physical AI \u201cthink before it acts\u201d \u2013 a Chinese start-up stole the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">On Wednesday, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province-based Spirit AI said its foundation model for embodied intelligence, Spirit v1.6, had become the first from China to top the RoboArena global leaderboard.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Spirit v1.6 scored 1,924 on the benchmark, edging out Nvidia\u2019s Cosmos3-Nano-Policy, which took second place with a score of 1,881. Coming in third was DreamZero with a score of 1,763 \u2013 another Nvidia project unveiled in February.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The RoboArena benchmark, which evaluates how effectively generalist robot policies translate to real-world actions, was co-developed by Nvidia alongside elite institutions including Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The fierce competition underscores a broader shift: robotics is officially AI\u2019s next frontier.
