Casey Pitts of the US District Court for the Northern District of California <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberglaw.com\/public\/document\/CarreyrouetalvAnthropicPBCetalDocketNo525cv10897NDCalDec222025Cou\/3?doc_id=X33AU201RK9TTQF9BHNICSFSE6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ruled<\/a> Monday. The lawsuit will proceed against Anthropic, and claims against the other companies are severed into five separate actions.<\/p>\n<p>There are no allegations of conspiracy that could justify joinder for the \u201cbusiness rivals seeking to corner the LLM market,\u201d Pitts addedThe works at issue include Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist John Carreyrou\u2019s book about Elizabeth Holmes\u2019 infamous health technology company TheranosMeta Platforms Inc. and OpenAI Inc. were <a data-terminal-id=\"T7QHIKKGIFXI\" href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/ip-law\/openai-anthropic-xai-hit-with-copyright-lawsuit-from-writers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">initially named defendants<\/a>, but the claims against Meta were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberglaw.com\/public\/document\/CarreyrouetalvMetaPlatformsIncDocketNo326cv03725NDCalDec222025Cou?doc_id=XDPSLI0JFF9DL8JBBROHNPHCF5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">related to<\/a> an existing case in the same district court, and those against OpenAI were severed and added to multidistrict litigation against the AI giant in New York<\/p>\n<p>Google is represented by Wilson Sonsini Goodrich &amp; Rosati.
