{"id":68230,"date":"2026-06-10T00:37:44","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T00:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/68230\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T00:37:44","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T00:37:44","slug":"musks-xai-spacex-hit-with-class-action-over-data-center-nuisance-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/68230\/","title":{"rendered":"Musk\u2019s xAI, SpaceX hit with class action over data center \u2018nuisance\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">By Mike Scarcella<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">WASHINGTON, June 9 (Reuters) &#8211; Elon Musk\u2019s xAI and SpaceX have been sued by Mississippi residents who say a power plant \u200cfueling nearby data centers is blasting \u201comnipresent and inescapable\u201d noise that has eroded \u200ctheir health and home values.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The lawsuit, made public on Tuesday in federal court in Oxford, \u200bMississippi, claims Musk\u2019s companies negligently failed to curb the disturbance and created a public nuisance through excessive and offensive noise. Three residents filed the case on behalf of a class estimated at more than 10,000 members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;artificial intelligence&quot;}\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> (AI) boom is \u200cwreaking havoc on communities across \u2060the United States\u201d by subjecting thousands of residents to near-constant noise and vibrations, the lawsuit said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The plaintiffs are seeking damages for \u2060alleged emotional distress, reduced property values and other harms, as well as disgorgement of an unspecified amount in profits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">xAI and SpaceX did not immediately respond to \u200brequests for \u200bcomment. xAI subsidiary MZX Tech was also \u200bnamed as a defendant. Musk \u200cis not a defendant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">A lawyer for the plaintiffs, Robert Wiygul, in a statement, said, \u201cOur homes are supposed to be a sanctuary for us against the world,&#8221; but \u201cwhen they are invaded by noise 24 hours a day, it takes that fundamental peace of a good and decent life away from us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">xAI invested \u200cmore than $20 billion to build the plant \u200bat Southaven with the backing of Mississippi \u200bGovernor Tate Reeves. Gas-fired turbines \u200bat Southaven power data centers in and around Southaven, the \u200clawsuit said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The NAACP in April sued \u200bxAI over the plant \u200band centers, accusing the company of violating U.S. environmental rules.
