{"id":69585,"date":"2026-06-10T23:24:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T23:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/69585\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T23:24:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T23:24:08","slug":"chinese-propagandists-stoking-dissent-over-trump-tariffs-and-data-centres-openai-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ai\/69585\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese propagandists stoking dissent over Trump tariffs and data centres, OpenAI says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Chinese propagandists have been trying to \u2060use OpenAI\u2019s flagship chatbot \u2060to gin up opposition to Donald Trump\u2019s \u2060tariffs and intervene in American debates over data centres and AI, OpenAI said in a report published on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The company said its efforts, dating to late 2025 and early 2026, appeared to have had little or no effect, but it is another indication of \u200chow central generative AI is becoming in digital influence campaigns \u2013 even those aimed against AI companies themselves.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Chinese embassy in Washington said that while it was not familiar with OpenAI\u2019s research, \u201cwe firmly oppose any groundless attacks or smears against China\u201d and that Beijing was working to \u201censure AI is a force for good and for all\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">OpenAI said it caught one set of Chinese-speaking users using ChatGPT to \u2060come up with slogans and cartoons critiquing Trump\u2019s trade and tech policy that were later posted to X. \u200c<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The cartoons featured Trump behaving disruptively on the global stage, for example by swinging a hammer at a wall labelled \u201cGlobal Future\u201d or sawing apart a ladder he \u200cwas standing on.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Protesters gather at the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City in May to oppose the construction of a data centre.
