However, over the past few months, companies have started acknowledging the steep costs of \u201ctokenmaxxing\u201d with Uber CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga telling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/newsletters\/applied-ai\/uber-cto-shows-claude-code-can-blow-ai-budgets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/newsletters\/applied-ai\/uber-cto-shows-claude-code-can-blow-ai-budgets\" aria-label=\"The Information\">The Information<\/a> in April that his company had already burned through its entire 2026 AI token budget. Last month, the Financial Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/8ee0d3ef-9548-422d-8ff1-ebd48ad4b2ca?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/8ee0d3ef-9548-422d-8ff1-ebd48ad4b2ca?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" aria-label=\"reported\">reported<\/a> that some Amazon employees have been using the company\u2019s internal AI tools for non-essential tasks to inflate token usage numbers in response to tokenmaxxing pressures. The report noted similar issues at Meta as well.<\/p>\n<p>What About Price Cuts To Subscriptions?<\/p>\n<p>Google announced last week it is cutting the price of its cheapest Gemini AI Plus plan while expanding its perks. The price of the AI Plus subscription\u2014which offers access to the Gemini 3 Pro model and the image-generation tool Nano Banana Pro\u2014was cut from $8 per month to $5 per month. Gemini subscriptions product lead Vikas Kansal <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/vikaskansalHQ\/status\/2064029977709084963\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/x.com\/vikaskansalHQ\/status\/2064029977709084963\" aria-label=\"announced on X\">announced on X<\/a> that the plan will also include an increase in Google Drive storage from 200GB to 400GB. Google\u2019s new plan undercuts ChatGPT\u2019s cheapest \u201cGo\u201d tier subscription, which is priced at $8 per month.
