The company was founded in 2025 by Sergi Bastardas, along with co-founders Nacho Travesi and Antonio Mele.

Bastardas, who previously spent a decade at Amazon and the floriculture startup Colvin, identified a persistent lack of efficient human infrastructure for managing workers behind the scenes. Orbio’s platform uses AI agents—named Maria, Daniel, and Claire—to interview candidates, assess fit, monitor employee output, and conduct daily check-ins throughout an employee’s work lifecycle. The goal, according to Bastardas, is to help businesses run their workforces autonomously, allowing companies to engage and support frontline workers while delegating some workforce operations to AI agents.

The Series A round was led by Dawn Capital. Orbio’s customers already include Poke and YUM! Brands, which owns Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFC, using the software to onboard and manage frontline employees. Bastardas noted that customers are moving from pilot programs to full deployment of the software. As an example, he cited behavioral health provider The Stepping Stones Group, where Orbio now runs the company’s full U.S. operation, resulting in 20% more candidates making it through to get hired.

Bastardas explained that each AI agent generates data that feeds back into the others: onboarding signals inform recruiting quality, exit interviews reveal why employees leave and recalibrate hiring criteria, and engagement data identifies retention risks. Orbio competes with startups such as Paradox, which automates recruiting, and WorkJam, which manages frontline employees. However, Bastardas considers Orbio’s biggest competitor to be the legacy approach to managing frontline workers—a fragmented process that sometimes still involves spreadsheets and phone calls, particularly in healthcare, retail, and logistics.

Orbio has raised $26 million in total funding to date from investors including Visionaries and 2100 Ventures. Bastardas said the fresh capital will be used to hire and develop more AI agents. He commented that this will be a transformation for businesses and the workforce, noting that the 2.7 billion people who keep healthcare, retail, logistics, and hospitality running—most of whom do not have a corporate email address—have previously received nothing, and that this is their AI moment.

 1.
