Word on the street here in Los Angeles is that all those SpaceX employees are going to push up the already-high price of real estate in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the company\u2019s official relocation to Texas, about a third of SpaceX\u2019s 22,000-strong workforce remains in Hawthorne, a small city 12 miles south of central L.A. Many of them own shares in the company. Many of them are part of the more than 4,000 that became paper millionaires when SPCX closed at about $161 on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Where to put one\u2019s winnings? L.A. real estate is rarely a bad bet, but based on my conversations with aerospace execs in the area, there\u2019s broad hope that some of the more entrepreneurial SpaceX vets take their newfound riches and reinvest it in new ventures in \u201c<a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/story\/el-segundo-california-silicon-valley-hard-tech-hub\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/story\/el-segundo-california-silicon-valley-hard-tech-hub\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Gundo<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.csulb.edu\/space-beach-initiative\" href=\"https:\/\/www.csulb.edu\/space-beach-initiative\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Space Beach<\/a>,\u201d and beyond. Access to both models\u2014Fable is the \u201csafe for general use\u201d version of Mythos\u2014remains suspended.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first clash between the two entities. Months ago, the U.S. military labeled Anthropic a \u201csupply chain risk\u201d after it refused to honor a request to lift safety guardrails.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s odd about this latest clash is that Anthropic coordinated with the White House on the deployment of Mythos. But <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/why-white-house-ordered-export-controls-anthropic-mythos-fable-2026-6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/why-white-house-ordered-export-controls-anthropic-mythos-fable-2026-6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to Business Insider<\/a>, soon after the release of the models, \u201ctop administration officials developed fresh doubts that the AI&#8217;s guardrails were as secure as the company had suggested.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those doubts <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/06\/14\/how-a-warning-from-amazon-led-the-white-house-to-shut-down-anthropics-mythos-model\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/06\/14\/how-a-warning-from-amazon-led-the-white-house-to-shut-down-anthropics-mythos-model\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">came courtesy of Amazon researchers<\/a>, who showed that they were able to evade some of Fable\u2019s safeguards.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe disagree that the finding of a narrow potential jailbreak should be cause for recalling a commercial model deployed to hundreds of millions of people,\u201d Anthropic wrote. \u201cIf this standard was applied across the industry, we believe it would essentially halt all new model deployments for all frontier model providers.\u201d \u2014AN<\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s Siri AI: \u2018Just good enough\u2019<\/p>\n<p>By now, there isn\u2019t a soul in Silicon Valley who doesn\u2019t know that Apple has been working furiously to catch up to the industry on AI.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the question: Do its new Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features stack up?<\/p>\n<p><a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/newsletters\/2026-06-14\/siri-ai-hands-on-review-ios-27-macos-27-details-iphone-fold-touch-macbook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/newsletters\/2026-06-14\/siri-ai-hands-on-review-ios-27-macos-27-details-iphone-fold-touch-macbook\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to longtime Apple watcher<\/a> Mark Gurman, the features are \u201cfar from groundbreaking\u201d but \u201cgood enough to start pulling the company out\u201d of the hole it\u2019s dug for itself.<\/p>\n<p>If you missed it, Apple\u2019s new features include web-informed answers, additional systemwide actions, and what the company calls \u201conscreen awareness\u201d and \u201cpersonal context understanding.\u201d (Much of this was first announced in 2024; it\u2019s due for wide release this fall.)<\/p>\n<p>Gurman says those last two in particular \u201csped up workflows\u201d across devices for things like moving a calendar appointment, finding a particular email, and retrieving a person\u2019s recommendations originally made via email or text message.<\/p>\n<p>It also seems like the new Siri is connecting the dots a lot better than the old one. \u201cThe new Siri can handle many of the tasks an everyday consumer would throw at OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT, Google Gemini or Anthropic\u2019s Claude,\u201d Gurman writes\u2014essential since that style of interaction is increasingly the default for users.<\/p>\n<p>Issues remain, including sluggishness, dropped queries, and a lack of understanding of what\u2019s on the user\u2019s screen. But it\u2019s still a beta release after all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on my usage of several AI tools over the past three years,\u201d Gurman writes, \u201cthe new Siri is roughly competitive with where the leading chatbots were about six months ago.\u201d You know what? We\u2019ll take it. \u2014AN<\/p>\n<p>Alibaba may buy Pupu for $1.5 billion<\/p>\n<p>Alibaba has reportedly offered $1.5 billion to buy Pupu, the Fujian fresh grocery delivery company.<\/p>\n<p>The sum, <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-06-12\/alibaba-bids-1-5-billion-for-china-grocer-in-fight-with-meituan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-06-12\/alibaba-bids-1-5-billion-for-china-grocer-in-fight-with-meituan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as reported by Bloomberg<\/a>, is more than double the bid from PE-backed Sun Art Retail and is part of a broader move to take market share from rival Meituan, which in February announced its $717 million acquisition of fresh grocer Dingdong\u2019s China business.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t let the fierce competition in the fresh grocery category distract you\u2014this is just one battle in a broader war between China\u2019s Big 3 e-commerce kings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For years, Alibaba, Meituan, and JD.com have been locked in a destructive price war, driven by subsidies, that grew so economically damaging that the Chinese government stepped in.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the companies have turned toward consolidation as a strategy for growth, putting a different kind of pressure\u2014antitrust\u2014on Beijing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meituan\u2019s Dingdong deal is pending approval by regulators; expect the same for the possible sale of privately held Pupu, one of the last major independent grocers standing.
