A second person was also killed in the accident.<\/p>\n<p>The crash happened Friday afternoon when a small aircraft went down in a field near the airport in La Baule, a seaside town on France\u2019s Atlantic coast, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/france3-regions.franceinfo.fr\/bretagne\/ille-et-vilaine\/rennes\/deux-morts-dans-un-crash-a-la-baule-l-avion-de-tourisme-etait-parti-de-rennes-3372190.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">France 3<\/a>, citing firefighters in Loire-Atlantique.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters said the aircraft was on fire when emergency crews arrived at the scene, with flames spreading to nearby vegetation. Both people on board were killed.<\/p>\n<p>The aircraft was a Cessna 421, a twin-engine propeller plane with eight seats, according to La Baule Mayor Franck Louvrier, who spoke to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ici.fr\/pays-de-la-loire\/loire-atlantique-44\/la-baule-escoublac\/crash-d-un-avion-de-tourisme-en-loire-atlantique-deux-personnes-sont-mortes-8633918\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ici Loire Oc\u00e9an<\/a>. The plane had departed from Rennes.<\/p>\n<p>\tArticle continues below the player<\/p>\n<p>Guillemot, a 69-year-old businessman from Brittany, owned the aircraft and was expected in La Baule for a weekend gathering of more than 100 planes, France 3 reported.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ouest-france.fr\/societe\/faits-divers\/crash\/crash-aerien-a-la-baule-un-pilote-davion-instructeur-chevronne-est-decede-aux-cotes-du-cofondateur-dubisoft-22f9dc1a-6ca1-11f1-971c-5aa54f866c16\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ouest-France<\/a> identified the second victim as Marc Guillet, a seasoned flight instructor and pilot who was flying with Guillemot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUbisoft has learned with profound sadness of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the Group and Chairman of Guillemot Corporation, in an accident,\u201d the company said in a statement. \u201cOur thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. No further communication will be made at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guillemot co-founded Ubisoft with his brothers in the 1980s, helping build the company into one of the world\u2019s best-known video game publishers. Ubisoft is behind major franchises including Assassin\u2019s Creed, Far Cry, Just Dance and Tom Clancy\u2019s Rainbow Six.<\/p>\n<p>Guillemot was also chairman of Guillemot Corporation, a French company known for video game accessories and hardware.
